Music for Mental Health Returns for Ninth Year in Yellowknife

by Daphne Watson

Yellowknife’s annual Music for Mental Health event is making a much-anticipated return this Tuesday evening at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre.

Now in its ninth year, the event is organized by students from Sir John Franklin High School and aims to raise awareness and promote open conversations around mental health through the power of music.

The initiative has become a staple in the local community, offering a platform for youth to creatively express support for mental wellness while engaging the public in a meaningful cause.

Teacher and event organizer Mark Kilbride recently spoke with Jared Monkman about the upcoming show. Kilbride emphasized the importance of student involvement and the event’s growing impact in breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health.

Music for Mental Health is open to the public and promises an evening of inspiring performances, community connection, and positive advocacy.
