Palm Springs Offers Mental Health Support in Wake of Fertility Clinic Bombing

by Daphne Watson

In response to the recent bombing at the American Reproductive Centers fertility clinic, Palm Springs city officials are mobilizing mental health resources to support residents affected by the traumatic event.

In a statement released on social media Monday, city leaders acknowledged that the explosion has “severely shaken the nerves” of many community members—particularly those who live or work near the blast site, witnessed the aftermath, or sustained collateral damage to homes or businesses.

“Our community is hurting, and it’s important that we provide services so those affected by this terrible tragedy can find healing,” said Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte. “We want every resident to know that they are not alone. Help is available, and it’s just a click away.”

Community-Based Mental Health Support

The LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert is leading local efforts to provide emotional support through a series of group therapy sessions titled “Grounding After Crisis: Healing in Community.” These drop-in sessions will be held at The Center’s Scott Hines Behavioral Health Clinic, located on the second floor at 1301 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Community Room 7.

Scheduled group sessions include:

  • Wednesday, May 21 at 2:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
  • Monday, May 27 at 4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Residents seeking further information can contact The Center at 760-416-7790 ext. 3.

Additional Resources Available

In addition to local services, those in crisis can access free and confidential 24/7 support through the Crisis Text Line by texting 741741. Trained counselors are available at all times to assist individuals dealing with emotional distress, anxiety, or trauma.

City officials continue to monitor community needs and plan to expand support services as necessary in the days ahead.
