Kelowna Gym Launches Innovative Fundraiser for Mental Health Awareness

Kelowna’s REC Fitness is teaming up with Third Space Charity this May to mark Mental Health Month with a distinctive fundraiser designed to engage the community and raise vital funds.

Returning for its second year, the “Trainer Revenge” event invites gym members to purchase individual exercises — ranging from seven burpees for $10 to challenges such as 200-metre runs and hanging knee tuck-ups. Each purchase contributes to a custom workout that REC Fitness trainers will complete live and in full view of the public on Friday, May 23.

An anonymous donor has generously pledged to match every dollar raised up to $5,000, amplifying the impact of the event.

“Last year, I couldn’t use my arms for a few days after the workout — but honestly, it was worth every rep,” said Nicole Vincze, owner of REC Fitness Kelowna. “I’m incredibly proud of the community we’ve built here. Our members don’t just show up for their own health, they show up for each other and for causes that matter. That’s what makes this event so powerful.”

Funds raised will support Third Space Charity, a Kelowna-based non-profit offering accessible, pay-what-you-can counselling services for young adults aged 18 to 29.

“This event is a brilliant example of how businesses can create fundraisers that are exciting and unique to them,” said Megan Woodruff, Executive Director of Third Space Charity.

The live workout event will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, May 23, at REC Fitness located at 800 Clement Avenue. Tickets are available for $2 at the door, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Light refreshments will be provided, including craft beer from BNA Brewing, donuts from Blooming Health, and fresh popcorn.
